Mission

The Central Ohio Metal Detecting Association is a friendly, collegial organization supporting and preserving recreational metal detecting activity and providing fellowship among members through the responsible use of hobby metal detectors.

Values

COMDA and their members support and encourage the responsible use of hobby metal detectors including research, compilation, recording and preserving of historical data.

COMDA is a volunteer organization, each member has a responsibility to contribute to the greater good of the organization and the community at large.

COMDA provides and strives to preserve metal detecting as a legitimate recreational activity and through organization, foster friendships and defending the privilege of hobby metal detecting.

COMDA promotes respect for all people and does not discriminate based on gender, race, politics, sexual orientation or religious beliefs.

Code of Conduct

  • I will neatly repair all target recovery areas to as near as possible to original condition.
  • I will preserve the hobby by making a good impression using thoughtfulness, consideration and courtesy at all times.
  • I will teach others responsible techniques and lead others by providing a good example.
  • I will know and obey laws and rules regarding metal detecting.
  • I will secure appropriate permission before searching public or private property.
  • I will remove trash and dispose of it properly.
  • I will report to the proper authorities any individuals knowingly violating laws or rules regarding metal detecting.
  • I will record and preserve information regarding finds of archaeological or historical significance and when appropriate, report discoveries to the proper authorities.
  • I will assist authorities and the public in the recovery of lost items when asked, and will make reasonable efforts to return identifiable items to their rightful owners.
  • I will speak out against those laws or rules which limit responsible hobby metal detector use.
